Nursery fined Rs 50,000 for not replacing dead plant

A nursery owner in the district has been fined Rs 50,000 by the consumer court for causing mental distress and legal expenses to a customer by refusing to replace a dead plant. Delhi HC declines petition on ‘dead rat in buttermilk pack’, directs UP to respond to woman’s complaint

The Noida resident’s plea regarding her alleged health issues after consuming a tetra pack of buttermilk containing a dead rat has been rejected by the Delhi High Court. The woman had sought compensation of Rs 20 lakh from the authorities and the product manufacturer. Justice Rekha Palli stated that there was no evidence to prove that the product was defective and that the matter cannot be resolved through a writ petition. The petitioner was advised to approach the consumer court, while the Food Safety and Drug Administration department of the Uttar Pradesh government was directed to respond to the complaint.

Director of real estate firm held for non-compliance with consumer forum order

The director of a real estate company, Ineet Aggarwal, was arrested by the local police on Thursday for failing to comply with an order issued by the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in November 2014. The commission had sentenced Aggarwal to three years in jail for his non-compliance. In its order, the commission stated that Aggarwal had shown his inability to deposit the decretal amount and had also failed to pay the fine.
